Harrods Contractor To Transform Ireland’s Tallest Building

The £2m refurbishment of the Obel property complex is set to continue with the installation of a high performance solar control window film which will significantly enhance the comfort of the building occupants.

Work has already started on this latest upgrade to the building, which will be extended to all 27 floors. The work will dramatically improve the exterior aesthetics of Ireland’s tallest building, whilst ensuring privacy for residents and offering major energy savings all year round.

The solar window film is being installed by Solartek Films Ltd, a Hertfordshire-based specialist company which has carried out similar projects on some of the most iconic buildings in the UK, such as Lords, Harrods and the BBC to name just a few.

The new window film has been installed on the first three floors, with all floors due to be completed before autumn. The window film installation is the latest part of the ongoing refurbishment programme which was announced earlier this year by Lisney, the appointed asset manager for Obel.

Ben Hickling of Solartek Films Ltd commented:

“The Obel building dominates the Belfast skyline and we are hugely excited about the opportunity to deliver a window film project which will both enhance the exterior and enhance the living experience and comfort for residents.

“We enjoy ongoing relationships with some of the largest companies in the UK and know from experience that there are a wide range of benefits from this type of solar window film.

“As well as ensuring excellent daytime privacy, the new window films will reflect up to 80% of heat in summer months and reflect 39% radiant heat back during winter — as well as cutting down glare and reducing internal fading.

“Our project management and installation expertise is matched by the film quality, which is manufactured by our partner Solar Gard Saint-Gobain.”

Fetherston Clements is the selling agent for the Obel apartments, with the first phase of newly-refurbished apartments having gone on sale earlier this year.

Will Miscampbell, Partner, Fetherston Clements Estate Agents, said:

“The interest in the Obel apartments since the refurbishment works were announced has been huge. Significant enhancement works have been carried out to the apartment’s internal finishes, as well as to the lifts, lobbies and reception areas, and the new solar window film will elevate the complex to another level again. “We want to ensure that every supplier involved in the refurbishment of the Obel is an expert in the field and, having worked with Harrods, there’s no doubting Solartek’s first-class pedigree. We look forward to seeing the finished product.”

Ciaran O’Kane, Director of Property Management at Lisney, added:

“The rebirth of the Obel is continuing at pace thanks to the internal enhancement works carried out to the one, two and three-bedroom apartments, as well as the Duplex and Penthouse Suites.

“The installation of the solar window film is the next stage of the exciting plans we have which are not only hugely increasing the significant living experience for residents, but also ensuring that Ireland’s tallest building is one which the people of Belfast can take great pride in.”
