Magee Banks, Kildare
23rd December 2015
Lisney and Conway Auctioneers have been jointly appointed to offer one of the largest town centre development sites in the country, the former Magee Barracks in Kildare town.
The joint agents have been instructed by the Department of Defence to sell the former army barracks by Public Auction in February 2016 with a guide price of €2m.
The landholding of approximately 50 acres is located on the east side of Market Square on Hospital Street and also has road frontage onto Melitta Road. The new Kildare Town Primary Care Centre also located on Hospital Street has just recently opened. The highly successful Kildare Village Outlet Shopping is growing year on year with Phase 2 recently opening. In September, the new Kildare Town Educate Together school opened on lands which formed part of Magee Barracks that were sold to the Department of Education. There are also plans to build a new Gaelscoil beside the Educate Together campus.
The lands are zoned under the Kildare Town Local Area Plan (LAP) 2012-2018 as “Regeneration of Magee Barracks”. The zoning allows for the development of the site for a mix of employment, educational, community and residential uses.
The joint selling agents John Conway and Cathal Daughton commented that “having jointly sold over
300 acres of development land in the Kildare area over the past two years, we expect strong demand from a variety of potential bidders”.
The auction will be held in February 2016 with a date to be announced early in the New Year.
