Rathsallagh golf course back on the market for €1.35m
1st July 2015
The golf course was sold last year at tender but the sale has not proceeded and the property has now returned to the market.
Lisney and Jordan Chartered Surveyors have been instructed as joint agents by Rathsallagh Golf and Country Club Limited to offer the former 18-hole golf course on 274 acres at Rathsallagh, Dunlavin, Co Wicklow (West Wicklow) for sale by private treaty asking €1.35 million (which works out at €5,000 an acre on average).
The property is likely to be of considerable interest to farmers and contains a substantial quantity of high quality and fertile lands suited to both dairy and tillage purposes. The former golf course may well also continue for that purpose. It is very well-known and adjoins Rathsallagh House Hotel which is accessed by various rights of way over the course. The property comprises a superb former parkland golf course situated in this wonderful scenic West Wicklow location close to Kildare and only 1 hour from the centre of Dublin and Dublin Airport.
It is important to note that Rathsallagh House Hotel, on circa 260 acres of land and which is owned by the O’Flynn family is not for sale and is not affected in any way by the sale of the golf course. It is business as usual at the hotel which enjoys a great reputation and has established a very strong wedding business in recent years.
Designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr and Peter McEvoy, it was one of the top courses in Ireland and the UK and measures 6,583 meters. it was officially opened in 1995 by the legendary Australian golfer Peter Thompson the 5 times Open Champion. There are several lakes and small streams meandering across the property and there is a substantial modern golf clubhouse of approx. 1,050 sq.m. with function room and car park.
These freehold lands are of interest to a variety of purchasers to include farmers while also offering the potential to continue as a golf club. The agents report that a number of regionally based farmers having already indicated an intention to bid for the entire property and that there is also interest from a several golf investors.
